Trebizond lives on!

In Rose Macaulay's wonderful novel, "The Towers of Trebizond" (1956), the narrator says, "I got to know Trebizond, and particularly the ruined citadel and palace, pretty well before I had done with it. There is all about it, with maps and plans, in a very large good book on Armenian travels by H. F. B. Lynch, who was there about sixty years ago [...]". I bought H. F. B. Lynch's book on the basis that if it was good enough for Rose Macaulay, it would certainly be good enough for me - and I was so right. It's a real belter of a travelogue - heavyweight not only in terms of avoirdupois but also authority and scholarship. It thoroughly deserves to be still in print, more than 100 years after it was written, and the two-volume 1990 edition does it full justice.
