About the Author
Hans Levenbach starts his career at AT&T Bell Laboratories as an applied statistician, participating in forecasting project and developing analytical support systems for the Bell Operating Companies. Over the years he has many years of teaching experience as Adjunct Professor in the Business Schools of Columbia University and New York University. In 1996, he was a Visiting Professor at the Stern School of Business at NYU. In his professional life, he served as President, Treasurer and Board member of the International Institute of Forecasters (IIF). In June 2003 he was elected Fellow of the IIF. Hans graduated from Acadia University (Canada) with a degree in Physics and Mathematics, and received an MSc in Electrical Engineering from Queen's University (Canada) and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Mathematical Statistics from the University of Toronto. Hans is involved in all aspects of the company and particularly enjoys working with forecasting practitioners and software developers.

James P. Cleary held a number of leadership positions in marketing and finance at AT&T, Lucent Technologies, Avaya, and New York Telephone Company. Recently, he developed market sizing and quantified business case value propositions that demonstrated the product benefits from the perspectives of the end users, the service providers and the manufacturer. He directed the business management functions of strategic planning, business planning, forecasting and results analysis. He also led a forecast improvement team that improved the accuracy of the customer team demand forecasts. He was the Director-Market Research & Analysis in the Business Communications Services unit. His financial positions included the CFO-Data Communications Services and CFO-Computer Systems. Mr. Cleary developed courses in time series and econometric modeling for AT&T. He also developed a course for managers of the forecasting function.

I liked this book so much that I bought one to ...

I liked this book so much that I bought one to replace one that I had lost. When I received it, I was shocked at the quality of the printing. It looks like it was printed on a poor quality color printer. I've never seen anything like it before. As a result, the colors are not as vivid as in the original, which is disappointing since the book is all about color. I recommend the book for it's content, but the print quality is terrible.

The one problem with this wonderful (maybe the best) color how-to is the authors ideas about how the student will be able to setup their still life according to the book. It seems the author forgot the properties of light, he thinks you can be in a dark room - with light shining only on the still life - and still paint. I found it impossible to set up the still life according to the book, so I assume he wrote that without really doing it. Yes I'm aware he's a well established art teacher, but Welshmen it comes to creating and writing people do take short cuts.

Do get the book, juts come up with your own way to see the light the way the author wants you to. His method will not work. Unless you can manipulate photons.

This is the greatest book on painting I have ever read.

I was reccomended this book by one of my professors who is a rather established artist in her own right. She told me the book was no nonsense the best book on painting instruction she has ever read and I agree with her 100 percent. If only I had had access to this book earlier. But at least I own a copy, before the prices were so inflated. Such an amazing book, it teaches you how to "see" color, and the technical applications of applying paint.
Any one who is serious about painting should invest in this incredible book.

*Starts to remove bits of clothing because I am seriously the epitome of hot and bothered right now*

In the past I haven't read a lot of these erotica shorts but thing are a-changin' because J.A. Laurie made me a believer. I still have the tingles and I finished this hours ago. The Darkened Room was the perfect blend of surprising slow building anticipation, palpable sexual tension, and brilliantly written erotica.

Sandy has been speaking to a man online and they've finally set a meet. Everything has been planned perfectly, she just has to decide if she can get over her fears of the unknown and revel in her wildest fantasies. Showing up a the predetermined hotel room, Sandy gives in and comes away with more than she ever expected.

Told from Sandy's point of view, the voice used by J.A. Laurie was masterful. Every word was chosen with obvious care to move this short story along in such a way that I could actually feel it. I felt Sandy's worry and desire. And being as this was so short, I was pleasantly surprised at how sweet this story was. I went in expecting thoroughly erotic sex scenes (of which there were plenty) but was also given wonderfully tender love scenes as well.

I'm thrilled I found a new author to satisfy my sexy cravings. Now I'm going to hide away binge reading everything Mr. Laurie has written with extra batteries in tow.

A short story that will have your panties dropping to the floor! This is a new author for me and he has found a new follower. I love the anticipation, the descriptive words that brings you closer to her sexual encounter with her master. This short story was hot and steamy! There's nothing like fulfilling your fantasy with a master who gives it to you the way you thought he would and then some. Great read ! 5 scorching stars for this book.

Best neural network textbook for beginners

This is definitely a must read for all NN beginners. In my opinion, this book is very well organized. First, it puts theoretical stuff and applicaiton examples into separate parts (Part I&II). Second, in Part I, it starts with basic constituents of NNs: one neuron NN, activation fucntion, learning rule,...and then covers NNs of more large-scale types. Within each type, it describes the most rudementary or prototype NN first, supplements info regarding other variants next, and mentions the issues to be encountered for actual implemention. This all makes this book so easy to follow. I can quickily decide whether I can skip the coming section/subsection and no worry of discontinuity as I read along.

I strongly recommend this text for beginners and graduate students who want to understand Neural Networks. First, the text book explains the why, where, and how to apply Neural Networks, which is the most important point for understanding Neural Networks. Second, mathematical proofs, clear description of algorithms and MATLAB codes encourage me to do it myself. And a lot of mathematical foundation in the Appendix allow me to understand quite easily complex mathematical concepts.

Great for building a solid foundation and keeping as a reference for later use.

This book requires a higher level of reading comprehension. During my BA degree, it seemed to difficult. After completing my master's, it was understandable and not so daunting. It is, after all, a research book written by a professor. Now on to the contents of the book: I especially loved this book because it focused on only Zoroastrianism and only referred to Christianity or Judiasm as a source of references, maybe just a few times. I did not know much about this religion, but after having read the book, I understand the key tenets and philosophies of the teachings. The book also provides extensive historical detail which play a key in understanding. After reading this book, I am able to talk to others about this religion as I have a good base, and I am ready to take the next step in ordering another book, maybe the Avesta itself or the prayer book, to delve deeper into Zoroastrian understanding. I will always keep my "The Zoroastrian Faith" book handy as my reference source! I highly recommend this book. This book took me 5 days to read, I just couldn't put it down once I got into it!

This book is a good overview of Zoroastrianism. It explains the belief system, the rituals and foundational texts of the religion. It touches on possible influences on and similarities to Christianity and Judaism. This brief comparison raises more questions than it answers leading to a desire for more in-depth comparisons. The core message of the "Good Religion"; good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is a message that can be embraced by all rational people.

FIRST HALF OF BOOK IS VERY GOOD INTRO TO ZOROASTRIAN FAITH. HE IS VERY HONEST ABOUT MANY OF THE UNVERIFIED PARTS OF THIS RELIGION. THE SECOND HALF OF BOOK IS ACTUAL TEXT & IS SLOWER READING BUT IS THERE FOR THE INDIVIDUAL TO STUDY.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

Inspirational, motivational play reviewed by teen.

Emlyn William's play,"The Corn Is Green", set in the a Welsh mining town at the turn of the century, expresses the joys of teaching and learning in their purest form. Miss Moffet's instruction and inspiration provides the young, ignorant miner Morgan with the tools to satisfy his insatiable thirst and passion for knowledge. Morgan's resistance and foolish decisions along the way serve to test his determination, values, and belief in himself. Parallels may be drawn with films such as "Dead Poets Society" and "The Man Without A Face", as each inspirational teacher provides a boy with knowledge, confidence, and most importantly humanity. Also, the film version of "The Corn Is Green" with Katharine Hepburn is well acted and shot on location in Wales. For further reference regarding the film, Kate Hepburn discusses her personal reaction to the play in her book ME. Every individual who loves to learn and teach will savor the deliciously inspirational words of Ms. Williams. Although fairly abscure at present, this play would make exceptional reading material for high schools--promoting a positive approach to learning for the millenium.

Thy Corn is Green: A Comedy in Three Acts

The Corn is Green is a simple play set in a Welsh mining town. It follows the struggles of Morgan Evans - a young man who has lost all his family and spends his days in the mines. Luckily, Ms.Moffat, a well educated woman, moves to town with the goal to educate the boys of the mining community. She shows a particular interest in Morgan Evans. Through his education, Morgan begins to show great talent in writing and eventually becomes the star student. However, he struggles with a sudden identity change and looks to Bessie Watty, a resentful and rebellious girl, for comfort. Morgan struggles continue to escalate as time goes by.
The play focuses on working class hardships, but does not truly illustrate the lives of the impoverished. Because it only focuses on Morgan Evans, it makes success seem easy when in actuality, it was almost impossible for someone to overcome the circumstances in which he was born.
The Corn is Green does address the issues of the time period, but hardly scratches the surface. Though it touches interesting issues, it does so in a standard way and does not evoke strong emotion.

The Corn is Green

This is a play set in a small town in a Welsh Village in the nineteenth century. The two main characters are Mrs. Moffat who decides to start a school in this city of coal miners, and Morgan Evans who is a brilliant student. With her two fellow teachers, they begin a school in their living room. In a town where every child over the age of 12 is required to work in the mines, Mrs. Moffat wants to change all of that and make sure every child there knows how to read, write, and has options for their future.
The key themes presented in this play are gender roles, equality of education, and the need to fulfill ones goals.
In the beginning of the play, it was hard to read. There was not really much interesting information in Act 1. In Act 2, things started to get interesting and then it was really easy to read and was enjoyable! If you like reading plays set in older times, you will probably enjoy this one!

If you want to know what business really looks like and the requirements of business, then this book will be a very good choice for you. This book contains five chapters that analyses business tools and techniques. Among these five chapters, one of them named "teaching guide" helps me a lot with my paper in university. It tells much useful information about different types of teaching and how to develop professional training. I found this book in my university's library, but I recommend you to buy a paper book because I believe that will be more helpful.

Brzezinski (Fortress America), a contributor to the New York Times Magazine, says this battle for military and technological control of space, part of the larger Cold War, had lasting consequences. Brzezinski illuminates how the space race divided Americans: for instance, then Sen. Well researched book

Very interesting book on how office politics drove the different designs and agency on both sides of the world. For me, Ike's legacy is explored in ways I have not heard. There is really a lot to this book that makes it a worthwhile read for sure. I certainly recommend it to space junkies. It's more then just the Soviet position. It's well balanced to give you a real multi dimensional picture. For example; if he discusses Soviet interoffice reveals, he turns around and covers US ones as well. Pick it up or download it. You'll love it

This is an informative and fascinating look at a 16-year period in U.S., Soviet and German history, beginning with a German V-2 rocket attack on the UK in late 1944, and ending with the United States belatedly but finally catching up to and surpassing the Soviet Union in ballistic missiles and the space race.

Prior to listening to this audiobook (which I've listened to twice already), I had the same sketchy, superficial knowledge of Sputnik that most people probably have, and which can be summed up in two or three sentences. There is so much more to the story, as this book's author, Matthew Brzezinski, reveals, starting with the role of German rocket scientists in the USSR's and the USA's missile efforts, and even before that, the activities by the US and Soviet military at the end of WWII to beat each other at tracking down and spiriting away German rockets, rocket parts, rocket manufacturing facilities, and rocket scientists (some of whom, Brzezinski suggests, probably were war criminals).

Brzezinski provides a fascinating insight into the political, military and economic scene in the Soviet Union under Stalin and Khruschev, and how those spheres of activity impacted each other and the USSR's ballistic missile and space efforts. Brzezinski also explains how the USSR's early space firsts propelled it into a superpower in the eyes of world, even though the ironic reality was that it was all perception, not reality. Sure, the Soviets launched the first transcontinental missile and the first satellite into space, but observers outside the USSR, especially the US media, erroneously leapt to the conclusion that these firsts meant that the USSR was capable of raining missile-borne destruction on the US and its allies. As Brzezinski's research shows, nothing could have been further from the truth. No such attack was even remotely possible. Furthermore, the money that the Soviets sank into missile testing and space shots had been siphoned away from other military programs, the upshot of which was that the Soviets' overall military posture had been significantly weakened.

Brzezinski also provides a fascinating look into the political and military scene in the Unites States, and the USA's missile and space efforts, which initially were hobbled and hindered by politicians and bureaucrats. One also learns fascinating details of the U2 program, life in 1950s El Paso, Texas and Huntsville, Alabama, and racial integration in the South. One cannot help but have a new opinion of Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, and Lyndon Johnson after learning about how they helped or hindered the US' missile and space initiatives.

This book does an excellent job of describing and explaining an important part of US and Soviet history, thereby also helping the reader to have a better understanding of the US, USSR, and post-USSR Russia since then. If you are a Baby Boomer who was too preoccupied with childhood pursuits in the 1950s to be aware of the geopolitical and military scene in the US and USSR, this book will fill in some important gaps for you.

Fascinating, but only half the story!

The book was published to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the launching of Sputnik. What makes it so particularly fascinating is that the author has dug deep into now-released Soviet records and can tell both sides of the story--the American and the Soviet. The author paints a picture that shows that the Americans deliberately kept Wernher von Braun and his 100 or so German cohorts locked away for five years or so without really letting them do anything, and thus the Americans were five years behind where they could have been. I'm not sure this is quite convincing, but if not, it's barely short of convincing. In the event, it was the failure of an American-led civilian group that allowed the Army and von Braun to launch the first American satellite. But the thing that kept me from rating this five stars is that the book stops with the launching of the American satellite. I would very much have liked to see the book continue until the launching of first the Soviet cosmonaut and second the American astronaut, since all the same players were involved. Is this book worth purchasing and reading? You bet! It's full of tidbits that haven't hit the public stage before. And it doesn't cannonize von Braun, either--painting him as clearly in cahoots with those who managed the slave labor to get the V2s in the air, and later turned the driving force behind the American space effort.
