In 1950, after over fifty years of military occupation and colonial rule, the Nationalist Party of Puerto Rico staged an unsuccessful armed insurrection against the United States. Violence swept through the island: assassins were sent to kill President Harry Truman, gunfights roared in eight towns, police stations and post offices were burned down. In order to suppress this uprising, the US Army deployed thousands of troops and bombarded two towns, marking the first time in history that the US government bombed its own citizens.

Nelson A. Denis tells this powerful story through the controversial life of Pedro Albizu Campos, who served as the president of the Nationalist Party. A lawyer, chemical engineer, and the first Puerto Rican to graduate from Harvard Law School, Albizu Campos was imprisoned for twenty-five years and died under mysterious circumstances. By tracing his life and death, Denis shows how the journey of Albizu Campos is part of a larger story of Puerto Rico and US colonialism.

Through oral histories, personal interviews, eyewitness accounts, congressional testimony, and recently declassified FBI files, War Against All Puerto Ricans tells the story of a forgotten revolution and its context in Puerto Rico's history, from the US invasion in 1898 to the modern-day struggle for self-determination. Denis provides an unflinching account of the gunfights, prison riots, political intrigue, FBI and CIA covert activity, and mass hysteria that accompanied this tumultuous period in Puerto Rican history.

Nelson A. Denis�was the editorial director of�El Diario, the largest Spanish-language newspaper in NYC, and won the Best Editorial Writing award from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. A graduate of Harvard University and Yale Law School, Denis served as a New York State Assemblyman (1997-2001) and has written for the�New York Daily News,�Newsday, and�Harvard Political Review.�Denis also wrote and directed the feature film�Vote For Me!,�which premiered in the Tribeca Film Festival.

A terrific MOVIE! in the making!

I was stunned and astounded by Nelson Denis’enthralling book, “ War Against All Puerto Ricans: Revolution and Terror in America’s Colony.” This book documents a "secret history" of Puerto Rico that is not taught in our schools - not in the US, and definitely not in Puerto Rico. Yet these events did happen, and they are presented this meticulously researched book with nearly 100 pages of footnotes as well as many intriguing photos of that epoch. Remarkably, even some of the footnotes are shocking.

The author is a lawyer and the extensive research confirms that. The United States is on trial here. The evidence is clear, convincing, and deeply organized. Hundreds of FBI documents provide the most shameful proof of all. By the end of the book, the entire US government has been placed on the witness stand, cross-examined, and found guilty of stealing an entire island.

But the deepest impression from this book is the way Denis told an electrifying story. The attempted assassination of Pres. Harry Truman, the Ponce Massacre, the Revolution of 1950, the Gunfight at Salon Boricua, the prison torture of Albizu Campos... all of these tableaus unfolded like a series of dramatic, high-action movie scenes. I could see these scenes playing, right in front of my eyes. My mind reeling as if I were in a time machine being transported to colonial Puerto Rico.

This book would make one hell of a movie. It is based on a history that has never been told. There are 8 million Puerto Ricans and over 55 million Latinos that would eat it up. I could see Benicio Del Toro or Marc Anthony in the role leading role of Don Pedro Albizu Campos. Consider this an open letter to any smart and successful movie producer out there… The next great historical and socio-politically relevant moneymaking story has been tailor-made for you… And what and amazing movie it would make!

it reads like a police blotter

This is sharply written, well-documented, and UNKNOWN history. I wasn't aware that all this happened in Puerto Rico!

The book reminds me of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, and Gulag Archipelago...it reads like a police blotter, with the entire island as a crime scene.

A lot of people are going to re-set their moral compass, and re-think their views about "Puerto Rican history" when they read this book.

Bombing two towns in broad daylight...arresting 3,000 Puerto Ricans...jailing and torturing hundreds of them...killing and maiming over 200 of them on Palm Sunday...keeping secret FBI files on over ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND Puerto Ricans...arresting anyone who owned a Puerto Rican flag, or sang the national anthem...

This stuff is incredible! Yet it all happened, right under our noses, in broad daylight.

What a strange thing for the USA, the "leader of the free world," to do this to an entire island - with millions of people on it.

I have to salute WAR AGAINST ALL PUERTO RICANS, for bringing it out into the open.

What a fascinating read. Prepare to be outraged as the author takes you on a journey telling you the hidden secrets of our nation’s history that you were denied in most high school history classes. Filled with comprehensive research of firsthand accounts, and pictures I found this book easy to breeze through. Timely, as we are now seeing the changing out of the tide in regards to US relations with Cuba. While Puerto Rico isn’t featured in the mainstream media as much, its destiny is still an unanswered question. As Puerto Rican will attempt to answer this question, we as a nation have to understand its past. Many times this book will shock you, but so is the nature of truth. As we learn from our past mistakes, we can look towards our future successes.

I note that there have been some comments about the CDC Handbook title. The CDC stands for 'Cleaning and Disinfection of Cleanrooms'. The book was written by a European author, where CDC has less significance as an acronym. To be clear the book, whilst of relevance to global readers, is not associated with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and is not intended to be seen as such.

About the Author
Dr. Sandle is a chartered biologist (Society for Biology) and holds a first class honors degree in Applied Biology; a Masters degree in education; and has a doctorate from Keele University.�

Dr. Sandle has over twenty years experience of designing, operating and reviewing a range of microbiological tests (including sterility testing, endotoxin LAL methodology, microbial enumeration, environmental monitoring, particle counting and water testing). In addition, Dr. Sandle is experienced in microbiological and quality batch review, microbiological investigation and policy development. This has been undertaken at major pharmaceutical companies and with organizations aligned to the UK National Health Service.

Dr. Sandle is an honorary consultant with the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Manchester and is a tutor for the university's pharmaceutical microbiology M.Sc course. In addition, Dr. Sandle serves on several national and international committees relating to pharmaceutical microbiology and cleanroom contamination control (including the�ISO cleanroom standards). He is currently chairman of the Pharmaceutical Microbiology Interest Group (Pharmig) LAL action group and serves on the National Blood Service cleaning and disinfection committee.
Dr. Sandle has written over one hundred book chapters, peer reviewed papers and technical articles relating to microbiology. This includes co-editing the�comprehensive�book �"Microbiology and Sterility Assurance in Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices". Dr. Sandle has also delivered papers to over forty international conferences.

A very good and challenging look at the unraveling of the protestant denominations and what our response should be

excellent quick read. Provides a uniqe interpretation of the decline facing mainstream protestant denominations, along with a thought provoking summary of the history that brought us to this point. The second half, where he deals with what our response should be is just as thought proviking. With that he gives some concrete ideas for ways to impliment his alternative approach. I found his determination to be Spirit and God focused, rather than ecclesiocentric, to be very refreshing. On the whole I found this little book to be well worth the time. The more I've thought about it, the more I've enjoyed it and been challenged by it.

Excellent advice for all church leaders!

Very timely and insightful perspective on the nature and role of the church. Whilst "hard-hitting" in terms of a realistic review of modern Church history and Christian movements, it also provides very helpful ways forward for churches with practical and common-sense advice. This is a must-read for all church leaders in these days of challenge and opportunity. We must stop trying to always "fix" the church. Changing mind-sets is very hard, but Alan provides some wise counsel to assist us to approach what it means to be a transformative church in our modern society.

However, the point on the temperature scale at which refrigeration in the ordinary sense of the term ends and cryogenics begins has ne ver been weB defined. Most workers in the field have chosen to restrict cryogenics to a tem� perature range below -150�C (123 K). This is a reasonable dividing line since the normal boiling points of the more permanent gases, such as helium, hydrogen, neon, nitrogen, oxygen, and air, lie below this temperature, while the more common refrigerants have boiling points that are above this temperature. Cryogenic engineering is concerned with the design and development of low-temperature systems and components.

Often seen as less interesting than the so-called early and middle dialogues, the Philebus is in fact one of Plato's most mature and important dialogues. It must be read in combination with at least Plato's Republic, that also addresses the idea of the Good.

Decent summary of the theory and empirical results

Financial Markets Theory goes through major topics in financial theory, some asset pricing but a majority is corporate finance. The author just goes through point after point of results and has many cites for every finding he presents. Fairly easy read. Looks like class notes though, as some results have proofs while others do not. This is not necessarily bad, but was just something a little odd.

The reader should have at least an intermediate background in asset pricing and corporate finance prior to reading this book. Otherwise, the discussion maybe a little hard to follow. Many highly theoretical discussions (e.g., stochastic dominance, expected utility theory, and Pareto optimality). The most beneficial part, in my opinion, is the summary of empirical results are very helpful although the book is quite dated (copyright in 2003), so an update with more recent results maybe helpful.

Great for on-the-go relaxtion when you just have a little time!

This is my favorite 'portable' sized coloring book so far. It measures 5.25" x 8.25", so it is slightly larger than some of the other I have, but still small enough to fit in my purse (see my photos). The variety of designs is really good, and most are simple enough to easily finish in less than an hour--perfect for when you just have a little time to relax. Sometimes I don't have the patience or time for an intricate full-page design.

*The paper is nice and thick, and my Stabilo Neon markers only bled through a tiny bit, but not enough to transfer to the next page.
*Works beautifully with colored pencils (in my photos I used Tombow Irojiten)
*The designs are single sided, with a quote and blank lines on the back of each one.
*The description on the back of the book says '...watercolors'. I have tried that yet, but I will update the review when I do.

The designs are mostly mandalas and floral designs centered on the page, but there are also some full page designs and some with words (see my photos).

I really love this book and I plan to order several more for my nieces and daughter for Christmas!

Happy with this purchase

I took this book and a set of colored pencils with me on vacation and was happy I did. Loved the small size. This book contains the typical Valentina Harper drawings, but just smaller versions, like what is shown on the cover. I gave it 4 stars because the book is hard to keep open while coloring. The binding is tight and is actually a little puckered. The paper is a nice quality. I'd pay a little more money if they made these with spiral bindings.

Coloring on the go

This book is a smaller size, just right for putting in your purse or tote bag. The designs are not as involved as some of her other books, but that's okay, because this is a book for those on the run. The designs may be more simple than her others, but that doesn't mean they're not beautiful when completed.
