About the Author
I grew up with 2 brothers and one sister and my mother and father did not go to college. From an early age I always did not like people sugarcoating things when they gave me an answer. It got me in trouble sometimes but I was always content with who I was. I was always very stubborn and strong willed. I was not my mothers or fathers picked in the family. My mom was more bias to my older and younger brother, while my father showed partiality to my sister. I was the second child born to the family, and my father’s first born. Early on it bothered me that I was not one of the favorites but it made me the person that I am today. I don’t mind standing along on issues, and I don’t mind speaking my mind when I feel that I am absolutely right. I like to get along with people but not at the expense of compromising my core beliefs. I liked to think that those core beliefs are grounded and rooted in truth. This is something that is challenged regularly if you are married. You must learn to have a balance which I am still learning after 17 years of marriage. When I first met my wife I knew that she was a strong willed person. She has made me more stubborn with that strong will that she has. We have 3 kids Ariah, Josiah, and Isaiah who have taught me patience.

To start off, I'm a half white, half Mexican whose reviewing a book by a black author. That shouldn't matter, but in today's PC world (which is very heavily addressed in this book) you can never be too careful.

First, this is a great 'tell it like it is' book. Heck, it says it right on the cover. Mr. Williams does not pull his punches. He does not just hit the target, he punches right through it. As I'm sure one could assume, this book hits on several sensitive (God I hate that word) subjects ranging from the state of America under Obama, to immigration, to racism and affirmative action, to the media, and to, as he calls it, the 'Homosexual Mafia'. Yes, many will be offended, but hopefully by the time you get to the conclusion, you will also be enlightened.

It is not just one man's political rant though. No sir! Mr Williams has done his homework and research, and it is noted in the book.

Also, there are lighthearted (yet spot on in their observations and recommendations) chapters dealing with marriage, issues in the workplace, and rearing children. The author again does not pull punches and calls out the many families out there making boys into sissies and destroying the next generations competitive edge by declaring everyone 'winners'. He is not going to hit you with anything too advanced for anyone to apply in their own life though, as long as they use a little Common Sense.

This is also not a black mans soap box to attack other races. As I said, I'm not black. Did he address whites? Sure. Mexicans? Of course. Asians and middle easterners? You better believe it! Blacks? Probably more than all the other ones combined. He isn't some self hating, uppity 'Tom' either. He doesn't address issues by pointing a finger saying 'They're so bad'. No, he shows good, and bad qualities of each different group. He doesn't do it for the sake of complaining though, he does it as one man refusing to let ANYONE get away with feeling superior. He shows how we're all flawed, but we all have good in us too. The bottom line is we're all human, and we're all equal.

One of my favorite parts was that he included the full transcript of the Declaration of Independence. Sure anyone can go to Google or a History textbook and read it for themselves, but where it falls in the book is perfect, and having it in text right in front of me, reading it for my own enjoyment, really made me study what it says. We are not a country of cowards giving handouts, we are great, but in a bad slump that has gone on for too long now. With a little Common Sense, we can be great again.

Finally someone that understands the race card is dividing us all and how we all are being played

A friend of mine sent me a link to the author's Youtube video. Having been a former LEO (Caucasian at that) and having gone out into the field in the black communities for over 30 years and seeing what he is talking about with my own eyes, I have to salute him for telling it like it is. The political powerhouses in control are using the media to divide races and create tension and dissent so that they will take sides on political issues to control public opinion, grab votes, and control the masses by dividing them one against another. They have created a mentality where people feel like nothing is under their control, that they do not matter, and that none of their efforts will result in any accomplishments. People I'm telling you that is the furthest thing from the truth. They are afraid of unity. Very afraid. They know they would be removed if people woke up. Everyone, (especially white folks) should buy this book to see the perspectives of a black man who has figured it out and is trying to wake people up by using common sense. I have no affiliation nor do I know the author but I do appreciate that he has the courage to tell it like it is. I think if people would just be honest with one another and not get so offended a lot of mending and healing would take place.

Everything I am thinking but would never say

I could not put this book down. This is EVERYTHING I think on a daily basis and my coworkers and I snicker about, but to be polite and politically correct we could and never would say out loud. The book really brings to light how society expects and demands the best and finest things in life, weather they deserve it or not. Have recommended to all of my co-workers. Can't wait to read more from this author.

Despite a few years of research and the promise of his own marauder-like name, Jackall has written an unremittingly wooden tale of drug-related mayhem. Jackall (Williams College; Moral Mazes, 1988) spent a few years with the NYPD, following a trail of murders across precincts in Manhattan, the Bronx, and the West Side Highway connecting the two boroughs. The detectives gradually uncover a single gang operating out of a heavily Dominican neighborhood in Manhattan's Washington Heights. The Red Top crew--enamored of Scarface and clavos, secret compartments for guns that line their fancy cars- -moves in and takes over the corner drug trade after murdering the local dealers. Jackall is on the scene as the worst offenders are themselves murdered or rounded up for trial, accused of murdering others, from competing dealers to an innocent college grad who made the mistake of passing a gang member on the highway. But this dramatic story is not well served by Jackall's dry style (it's clear why the police referred to him as ``the Professor''). He is ill at ease with police lingo, and his use of terms like ``pross,'' ``dissing,'' and ``two in the head'' can be grating. Clearly, Jackall has an intimate understanding of the complicated case against the Red Top gang, yet it is confused by the book's poor organization. A short speech by the sentencing judge crackles with the only real fury here about how thoroughly the gang has ruined the lives of everyone it touched. Wild Cowboys has a great deal to tell about the formation and operation of emerging "criminal enterprises." Moreover, and perhaps more important, this book is a fly-on-the-wall look at how the "forces of order" think and go about eradicating the opposition...Mr. Jackall is at his best when he fleshes out how police detectives single-mindedly overcame dead-end leads, sidestepped or neutralized competing units within the ranks of the police bureaucracy and parlayed fragments of accurate information to solve several particularly vicious pieces of Wild Cowboy handiwork...Anyone interested in the techniques of criminal investigation could not find a more comprehensive and readable primer than this book. Great Book, the crazy days of the WIldCowboys including the Jerry Curl Brothers.

I began reading this book many years ago but only to re buy it again. Initially, I grew up in the upper Manhattan areas before moving to the Bronx, I was able to relate to some of the scenarios, people mention, and some of the locations described. Its some what accurate the stories mentioned but there are stuff that would never come to light, so for that reason they had to spice things up a little and add more information. I think the sources used were well sorted and context was in good order with the time settings of events. I have not yet started reading it again from the beginning with my busy schedule, since I am in the military but will definitely catch up to where I left at 8 years ago.

Good, but not exceptional

I needed this book for an anthropology class. While it is mostly good, I have a few complaints. The first chapter is written with so much academical jargon, I spent half my time figuring out what the words meant and had difficulty grasping the meaning. Thankfully, the following chapters are written in an easier to follow tone. My other complaint has to do with some of the articles being very dated; religions grow and change, I expected the most recent edition to reflect that. Overall, if you need this book for your class, order it. How much you enjoy it really depends on how your professor uses the material.
