About the Author

MICHAEL STURMA is Senior Lecturer in History at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Lexington, Kentucky, he obtained his Ph.D. from the Australian National University in 1980 and has resided in Australia ever since. He has also taught at the University of New England. He is author of Vice in a Vicious Society: Crime and Convicts in Mid-Nineteenth Century New South Wales (1983) and Australian Rock'n'Roll: The First Wave (1991).

First Contact, Gender, Colonialism, and Other Matters.

When Rudyard Kipling stated that East and West would never meet, he was refering to relations between the West and India. Discussions about when Europeans reached Polynesia also reveal sharp contrasts between two cultures. However, there is more suggestions of blending.

This book discusses the film "Mutiny on the Bounty" and those who liked that movie may love this more academic meditation on those facts. What happens when starved, exhausted, Christian-raised sailors come to islands filled with scantily-clad women who have far fewer restraints about their sexual activities and options? This book looks at that dynamic from a Women's Studies perspective.

Westerners who reached Polynesia did not just meet less conservative women. They saw societies that allowed for broader gender representations. Many other texts and historical accounts mention the mahu or the aikane. For example, some sources say Kamehameha the Great had female and male lovers. However, the sexual orientation dynamic or transgender dynamic isn't brought up here at all. I found that absolute erasure disappointing.

I recommend that readers see the Polynesian chapter in "The Pacific Experience." For those who want to hear more about third genders, read Lee Wallace's "Sexual Encounters: Polynesian Texts." Can I be honest about something? As the book focuses on gender, I just assumed the author was a woman. It's only now that I'm reviewing this that I see the author is a guy! Whoops! I hope that doesn't make my thoughts moot.

I love love love love love this bible

I have never spent so much time in God's word. I love love love love love this bible! If I won the lottery I would buy one of these bibles for everyone in recovery and everyone who is still struggling with their addiction. My fiance and I both have this bible and we read it together and then discuss what we read. I cannot even express in words what this bible is doing for me. I would recommend it to anyone who is or has been struggling with any kind of addiction. Whether it be drugs, alcohol, codependency, any kind of hurt habit or hang up. It's amazing! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! !

LOVE THIS BIBLE IT'S MY LIFELINE

I ordered the life recovery bible when I was going through a very difficult time in my life. I was 34 facing jail and had a drug addiction, someone had recommended for me to get this. I decided to go ahead and order this book and to my surprise it was just what I needed to help me thru a difficult time. In this book it not only has the words of The Lord but it also has some passages on the side of the pages that help you get thru daily prayer and actually make a lot of sense.
I really love this book! If you are going thru a ruff time in your life I would highly recommend getting this to help you through it. I can't really compare it to any other services but what I can say is that if your reluctant on getting help thru a third party then this book is perfect for you. It is about the size of a regular Bible and comes with a very nice protective box. :) I carry it with me everywhere, whenever I am feeling down and out I can always open my recovery bible and know that it will helpo me thru almost any situation that I may encounter.

Good, Solid Study Guide for Recovery & More

This Bible has really helped. I often overlooked the NLT and considered it comparable to "The Message," but decided to take the time and read the Introduction section. It goes into detail how this version was created and all the various contributors on the team who reviewed this translation. It made me feel confident that I was indeed getting THE Word and not a watered down feel-good read. It has various readings, much as a study Bible would, and also has parts designated for anyone working through the 12 Steps. I would recommend this Bible to anyone struggling with addiction of any kind or really anyone who has been out of the Word for a while.

About the Author
Nita Rutkosky began teaching business education courses at Pierce College in Puyallup, Washington, in 1978. Since then she has taught a variety of software applications to students in postsecondary Information Technology certificate and degree programs. In addition to this title, she has co-authored the Marquee Series 2013, 2010, 2007, and 2003, Signature Series 2013, 2010, 2007, and 2003, Using Computers in the Medical Office: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2010, 2007 and 2003, and Computer and Internet Essentials: Preparing for IC3. She has also authored textbooks on keyboarding, WordPerfect, desktop publishing, and voice recognition for Paradigm Publishing. Denise Seguin has been teaching at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario since 1986. She has taught a variety of software applications to adult learners in Continuing Education courses and learners in postsecondary Information Technology diploma programs. In addition to this textbook, Ms. Seguin has authored and co-authored many computer application textbooks for Paradigm Publishing, Inc. Audrey Roggenkamp has been teaching courses in the Business Information Technology department at Pierce College in Puyallup, including keyboarding, skill building, and Microsoft Office programs. It's the book that I need, however the description of the book online is "MARQUEE SER.:MS.OFFICE 2013-W/CD". There is no CD that comes with it.. Should be a bit more specific on what I'm actually getting.

When I bought the book the description stated the CD was included. However upon arrival I found it was not. Though Amazon was gracious enough to credit the purchase amount back to my account, I still need the book with the CD. I will not use this seller again.

BE CAREFUL!!!

WATCH OUT FOR DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING ON AMAZON!!! BOOK WAS NOT AS AD EXPRESSED. Feel I was swindled. Book is a Brief Edition. Not the advertised Comprehensive Edition necessary for course. Shame on me, should have been more cautious. Should not have trusted Amazon site for truth in advertising. Shame on Amazon for not policing own site!!!......I think I'll reconsider any future purchasing through Amazon site.
